A little spring in my step...

Hello there! Have you seen the previews for IK Spring 2009 yet? I've been on pins and needles for months in anticipation, not only because last year's spring issue was a nice little breath of fresh air (which I actually mentioned in an old post here), but also because I'm finally able to share the two patterns that constitute my debut as a designer: the Millefiori Cardigan and the Diminishing Rib Cardigan.

It's safe to say that I never in my wildest dreams would have guessed that I'd knit a taupe (taupe!) sweater that would land on the cover of Interweave Knits, but now I'm absolutely giddy with excitement at the prospect of seeing WIPs and eventual FOs, answering any questions that might pop up about the patterns, and receiving your feedback so that I can hone my designing and pattern-writing skills.

I'm currently working on cleaning up, consolidating, and connecting things here on the blog and on Ravelry; in the meantime, here are a couple of quick snapshots of the sweaters that I took before I shipped them off to Interweave (cropped Ichabod-Crane-style because I'd been knitting nonstop for nearly two weeks straight, and I'd rather not distract you from the knits themselves):

Diminishing Rib Cardigan
Millefiori Cardigan
(Did I mention that taupe's really grown on me?)

Thanks so much for dropping by -- I'll be posting more pattern notes and perhaps even a video tutorial for the clam stitch used in the Millefiori cardi in the coming weeks. As far as I'm concerned, spring can't arrive quickly enough around here!

I love them both! I'm not sure which of the two has jumped to the head of my queue, but the other is close behind. I think the tiebreaker will be whichever one works with the yarn I have in mind from my stash.

Congratulations on a fantastic debut. I sincerely hope there will be more to come from you in the future :D

Wow! Congratulations! I'm not ready to knit sweaters yet because I'm good at not finishing projects or else I'll add them to my queue!

Well done on your patterns in IK! I am an American living in Norway, and a long-time subscriber to IK and eagerly await each issue. The IK spring '09 issue is full of delight...And my favorite pattern/design is your Millefiori Cardigan! I can't wait to try knitting this, and I think I may even have some yarn in my stash to accomplish it. I was also very taken with the simplicity but delicate styling and shape of the Diminishing Rib Cardigan. I may use a bright color on this one though for some fun. I am glad to find your creative space here thanks to the mention of your blog in your profile in IK. Enjoy the thrill of your debut! :o) Happy Days!

Yea, Andrea! These designs are gorgeous, and I like your pics of them even better than the ones in the magazine (no offense, IK!)

Bravo!!

I love both of your cardigans. I started to knit your Millefiori Cardigan.

I am trying to make a swatch but unfortunately I have no idea how to make the clams. After returning 5 elongated stitches to left needle (Row 3) I try to do a clam, but I do not know how to do it... I read the explanations above, K5tog without dropping stitches, yo twice... and now I am stuck... Wchich stitches should I p5tog? Should I turn my work just like in making bobbles? I am quite confused because later in the description of the clam I read that I should do "K5tog, yo twice, p5tog, yo twice" 2 times. But how and where if I have only one stitch after kniitting five elongated stitches together?

It would be so great if you could make a tutorial of how to execute this clam stitch!

I managed to solve the problem with the clam... I had to concentrate and... off I went. The key words are: "without dropping sts from left needle"

Great patterns! I've started my Millefiori Cardigan and want to ask you: is there any reason for knitting button(hole)bands separately and sewing them on? I've been thinking of knitting them together with the front parts. Thank you for your answer!

I know this is probably not the best place to ask this question but couldn't find another place. I am trying to make your Fletcher Hat. I usually knit at dead on guage. I am trying the 21" and the result is at about 17"...would you review the pattern in Interweave Knits Weekend and let me know if all seems correct. I am using a worsted weight yard and it seems verrrry tight. Your other work is lovely. Thanks.
