Well-written, straightforward pattern? Check. Quick results? Check. Soft yet sturdy (albeit a smidge splitty) yarn? Check. Finished product that fits? Like a glove. I couldn't be happier with this project; it rivals my Tivoli tee in terms of rapid knitting gratification and ultimate wearability. The color choice was definitely something outside of my normal range of preferred hues, but it wasn't a complete coup, either, given the fact that I had noticed a recurring theme on newsstands in my area:

Kinda spooky, no? I've always considered yellow attire to be a sartorial pick-me-up, the sort of thing you wear when not only (A) are you happy and you know it, but (B) you want the rest of the world to know it, too. Orange and its many cousins (tangerine, pumpkin, coral) generally accomplish the same feat, but yellow just didn't have the same presence on the fashion scene...until this spring, that is. When I saw these magazine covers and the spectrum of yellows that began popping up in spring fashion lines (in luscious food-related shades, no less: lemon! buttercream! banana! Kraft Mac & Cheese!), I knew it was time to jump on the trend bandwagon. To be honest, I was worried I wouldn't finish the sweater before the color went out of season, but the worsted-weight Cotton Fleece flew off of my needles, and after ~2 weeks of knitting, Rusted Root was complete.

ready to wear!

Pattern notes are here on Ravelry; basically, I followed the directions for the small size with some additional waist/hip shaping to fit my measurements (Knitting Daily has a nice tutorial and a shaping calculator that I used to double-check my pattern mods). My sleeves might not be the puffiest, and the color not exactly timeless, but for now, I've found my own little slice of sunshine. Or mac & cheese. Either way, I'm still smilin'.

Next time: handknit baby gift roundup, including BSJ #1 and the most asymmetric knitting I've done to date.

It's gorgeous on you!!! Great job, and I love the color. Now if only I could get motivated to work on mine. I'm only 36 rounds into it and I'm already losing momentum.

Gorgeous! And so jauntily cute on you! I just finished a project with Cotton Fleece--did you notice on the label it's given a 3 for weight? Not a DK. So worsted.
